Highlights of the walk
A glimpse of this two-hour journey from Lugano station through the historic centre, Parco Ciani and the lakeside, finishing at LAC.
Begin above the city at the station, whose railway connections helped shape Lugano’s growth and its changing relationship with Switzerland and Europe.
Descend from the station to the cathedral’s Renaissance façade and terrace for a broad perspective over the historic centre.
Pause at Lugano’s historic salon, known for its elegant rooms and for playing a pivotal role during the Second World War.
Pause in Lugano’s elegant civic square, framed by pastel façades, cafés and the Palazzo Civico.
Follow shaded paths through Lugano’s lakeside garden, with mature trees, sculptures and open views across the water.
The former Kursaal on this site was more than a casino: it was a theatre and cultural venue with a deeper history, including hosting the first Eurovision Song Contest in 1956.
Walk beneath centuries-old arcades along Lugano’s best-known shopping street, linking the lakeside with the old town.
Step inside to see Bernardino Luini’s celebrated Renaissance fresco, one of Ticino’s defining works of art.
Finish at LAC, one of Ticino’s newest major cultural additions, where contemporary architecture opens onto the waterfront.
